Why is Craps So Confusing?

Craps is not one of the easiest games you will find in a casino. That is not to say the most of the other games are easy to play, but rather that craps is simply very confusing. Especially if you are a newer player, craps can be intimidating and a bit overwhelming. Being intimidated and overwhelmed is not the combination that you want to have when you are going to walk up to a craps table. The challenge for both new and old players alike is to develop a plan of attack for their best approach and strategy, but also to demystify the game as a whole.
The first part of the game that should be addressed for new players is the table. Unlike any other game that is found in a casino, the craps table is complex and multi-faceted.
When compared to a game like blackjack or poker, the craps table takes a much more prominent role in the overall gameplay. With poker, the table is almost irrelevant, as the only import part of the table is where the pot sits. With blackjack, the table again only plays a general role with the players being the focal point.
Short of perhaps the roulette wheel, the craps table is the most important non-dealer aspect of any of the casino games. Overall, the craps table is manned by two dealers. One is called the boxman and the other is referred to as the stickman. These two people will manage the various hard bets and proposition bets, while maintaining an appropriate tempo for the game. They also ensure the players are paid off and that all bets are collected and accounted for.
Another aspect that makes craps confusing for players is that it essentially has its own language. Like many games, craps has a distinct lingo that many of the advanced players are familiar with. First and foremost, the game gets its name from the fact that you can “crap out” by rolling a two, three, or twelve. Therefore, when you hear someone around the craps table says crap, then are referring to those three numbers. Other numbers have their own call signals as well. The number eleven is called a Yo or Yo-leven, a six is called a Jimmy Hicks, and a nine is a Skinny Dugan. Even dice combinations have special monikers in craps. Two ones are called snake eyes, while a one and a three is affectionately referred to as Little Joe from Kokomo. Not to be outdone, two fives is called Puppy Paws.
All of these various nuances of the game of craps make it difficult for anyone to just walk up and jump right in. Even if they did, they are more than likely to not be successful since they will have trouble developing a strategy that will be effective. There are so many different betting options that it could take a newer player months before they ever get comfortable calling themselves an expert.
How to Win Consistently at Poker

When it comes to winning consistently at poker, there are a number of different ways this can be accomplished. A main determination in your strategy will be the type of game you are playing in. There are different approaches for tournament games as well as cash games. The ultimate goal in tournament play is survival, while in cash games you are trying to accumulate your cash. They style of play will differ greatly in these two games. It is important to understand the nuances of both, so that you can learn how to win consistently at poker, no matter which style you are playing.
Tournament Action
In tournament action, there is an old adage that states as long as you have a chip and a chair, you have a chance. This is partially true. Many players have viewed this as an excuse to be aggressive early, and if it doesn’t pay off, then tighten up to build back your chip count. If you are a half glass full type of person, this approach probably seems logical. However, if you are practical, you will know that aggression typically leads to over-extension, and you will put yourself in bad positions more often than not. This will mean that you will end up being the short stack in the tournament with relative frequency. While this isn’t an impossible position, it will make your poker life much difficult in the long run.
Focus on the Game
Instead, you should focus of a game of controlled aggression. Playing tight is a start. That doesn’t mean that you should never bluff or chase hands; but rather only do so when the cost isn’t great or you are in decent hand position. Psychologically, people do not view chips in tournament play the same as they do in cash games. That is why the action in the beginning of a tournament is usually fast and furious; especially if there is a rebuy. Do not follow the crowd. Get tight and start raking hands and build your chip count that way. As long as you stay above the average chip count, you will be able to ride through the increased blinds and avoid playing on tilt.
Cash Games
Cash games are a completely different animal. Each chip you have in front of you represents a dollar that you earned at some point and time. That means that people think twice before putting it in play. Therefore, taking advantage of loose players will be something isn’t available nearly as often. In response to that, you really have to understand value in cash games. In other words, don’t chase hands unless the current or projected pot odds are worth your efforts. For example, if you are sitting on a gut shot straight draw on the river, you have an 11-1 chance of hitting it. That means that if you aren’t going to get back 11-1 returns on your call, then you aren’t getting enough value in return for your bet. That is a microcosm of how your approach in cash games should be. Everything is about value.

If you’re like a lot of casino players, you probably jet straight toward the slots or blackjack tables the second you hit the casino floor. These games are familiar and pretty easy to play, so why bother with all those other tables or machines?
Why? Because a lot of them are easy to play and insanely easy to win. Here’s our list for the top three underestimated casino games.
Casino War
If you’ve played war with friends as a kid, then you already know how to play casino war. Yup, we’re talking about the game where its’ you vs. a friend, high card wins. And when you have the same card, you deal out three face down and take a fourth. So does your friend. And once again, high card wins.
Casino War is exactly the same. Only replace your friend with your enemy. And by enemy we mean a casino dealer. It’s you vs. the casino in a winner-take-all, high-card-wins battle. And it’s so easy to play. Drop your bet and if your card is higher than the dealer’s card, you win. If it’s a tie, you go to war—just like you did as a kid.
It’s one of the most underestimated online casino games because it’s so easy to play and the odds are pretty good, especially for newbie online casino players. The only think you should note is that if you decide to go to war against the dealer, you’ll have to double your bet for a chance to win back your original bet. But at most casinos, if you tie going to war, you get paid out more.
Baccarat
Most people who walk by a baccarat table confuse it for blackjack. That’s expected. They sound kind of the same. And they look kind of the same. But there are tons of differences.
The most obvious? In baccarat, you can choose whether to bet on the player’s card or the banker’s card. You can’t do that in blackjack. You’re stuck with one hand and it has to face off against the dealer.
The second difference? In blackjack the number you want to hit is 21. In baccarat, it’s 9. And it’s impossible to go over that number. There’s a lot to love about online baccarat, but the best way to learn the game is to hit an online casino and start playing for free.
Video Poker
Many online casino players stay away from video poker machines because they think they’re too complicated. But the truth is a lot of the video poker machines pay out something as long as you make the board—usually the hand you need to win something is a pair of Jacks. A lot of other players overlook video poker because they assume you’re facing off against the dealer. But the truth is you’re not. In fact, you don’t even have to deal with other casino players. As long as your hand ranks, you win.

Mastering the American Roulette Wheel in 3 Steps

Roulette can be an intimidating game for anyone who is unfamiliar with the concept. Many gamblers don’t take the time to learn how to play, and therefore shy away from playing. For anyone interested in learning how to play roulette, the first things to know is that there are two different versions of the game. There is both an American roulette and a European roulette version. The two are essentially the same game, but there is one basic difference. American roulette utilizes a double zero space that reduces to the chance of hitting your number to 38-1, as opposed to a 37-1 in the European game. This changes the payout structure and house advantage.
All things considered though, the game itself is not difficult to learn, let alone master. There are just a few things that you need to focus on to learn how to play American roulette well. While this list won’t make the greatest roulette player in the world, it will allow you to feel comfortable walking up to a roulette wheel at any casino in the world and placing a few bets. Below are a just a few tips to help you master American roulette.
1. Start off slow. Start off betting the basics first so you can watch a few roulette spins before jumping in with a full blown strategy. You can start off by betting the best odds on the wheel, which is either black or red. Granted, you don’t have a 50% chance of winning because of the existence of both 0 and 00. You could employ a progressive strategy by simply picking a side, such as black, and just doubling your bet after a loss until you win your desired amount. The only problem with this strategy is that it limits your upside and you do run the risk of never hitting, although the odds of that happening are quite minimal.
2. Understand the odds. If you want to make any amount of money in a casino and you don’t have a good understanding of odds and how they should influence your betting strategies, then you better have an insane amount of luck. With American roulette, you have to understand the layout of the wheel. There are 35 numbers on the wheel plus an additional zero and double zero, which brings the odds to 38 to 1 for hitting any one space. There are other options such as black and red or odd and even wagers as well.
3. Disciplined bankroll management. Don’t even think about making any money in a casino is you aren’t going to effectively manage your bankroll. With American roulette, you have to have a decent understanding of the odds, and then you can manage your bankroll effectively. Make sure you are getting a return for the amounts that you invest. Conversely, make sure you don’t go too far in the hole during any one session.

I don’t recommend gambling clothes as it was a big pet peeve of mine. People who wear gambling related clothes have no taste or style in my opinion, but to each his own.

Most of today’s slot games are pretty interesting and at the very least, playable. In today’s competitive markets, companies do their bets to make slots that people will actually want to play. With thousands of dollars spent on research and development to create these new slot games, most of the time they get it right.
However, some of the older games are still around and even a small percentage of the newer ones are big flop. Most of the time the choice is simple, but if you stumble upon a bad slot game, you may just end up having one the worse experiences of your gambling life.
Here are some of the most common slot games that are universally thought of as garbage.
Fruit Slots
This dinosaur of a slot is still made and can be found at many of your online and live casinos. They are still played evidently, by who I don’t know, but they do exist and are generally disliked by all but a few. I even found a fan page on Facebook that is dedicated to the hating of fruit slots.
Penny Slots
After a little research and forum browsing I found that the most commonly hated slot games are penny slots. These are slots that can be found in airports, barber shops and in casinos. But the ones most disliked are the ones outside the casinos.
I feel the main reason for the hatred is that no one ever wins on these. They are simply an impulse reaction. In Vegas you can find slots anywhere you go, not just at the casinos. For most of us this is not the case and when we see one at a random spot that we would never normally see in our regular lives, we stop to play; because we can.
Most of the time, people put a few pennies and never win, they go on with their day and regret having spent the few bucks they just lost. This makes the penny slot one of the most hated games in the world. It takes your money and doesn’t fulfill any needs or desire. It may at first, but in the end it just makes you feel guilty and sad inside.
Any Slot I’m Not Winning At
I’m sorry, but if I’m not winning at a slot, I don’t like it one bit. I will move to a new one and continue moving on until I win. I hate all the ones in between as well.
