Agatha Storm Strikes Guatemala and some Insight to Gambling in Latin America

Hi Virtual Casino readers! I am sorry I was missing for the last couple of days but I am currently in Guatemala where the tropical storm Agatha has been messing around and my internet was a little weak.

The tropical storm is being a little harsh on this country, also considering that two days before the storm came into the area a volcano erupted with all its might. There have been some floodings in other parts of the country but most of the country is doing ok and life keeps on moving. Especially, most touristic places seem to be untouched by the natural disasters. These are images from holes caused by the floodings in Guatemala City:

I know it looks quite horrifying but it is one of those things that the international media turns into a way bigger deal than it actually is.

On another note, I have been exploring the Guatemalan gambling scene. I have found a lot of players that are very skilled at poker and other casino games. There is a very wide gambling market to explore in this part of the world because I have not found any efforts to bring online gambling here.

Players in Latin America have shown a great interest in gambling, the success of the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) is evidence of it (and of the gorgeous beaches, landscapes and natural destinations that can be found here). However, when it comes to online gambling most players are unaware that it exists as it is not popular and they have a very hard time trying to deposit funds into online casinos.

I have also been reading that others in the industry have started to notice that there is a gold mine for online gambling in Latin America and I hope someone pays real attention to it soon. I have been enjoying live gambling here so much and can only wish to be able to compete with these players online.

I’m sorry to defer Marianty but it honestly looks like a big deal. I hope you’re safe and sound over there in Guatemala because most of us here in the US are simply horrified with the sinkhole news – my heart goes out to the families who have lost their homes or those who have lost the lives of loved ones.

Bellevue says:

The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) was destined to suceed because no one had catered to this audience so far. Known brands should head this way instead of waiting for the US to legalize gambling. It’s never gonna happen.

Marianty says:

I know what you mean, and I agree that some parts of the country have been truly affected. However, the media just seems to exaggerate everything and give an unrealistic picture of what is going on. The sinkhole was probably the smallest issue, one house went down there and I am not sure if someone was in it when it happened. However, the international news waited until something weird like that happening while the country was suffering with a huge storm and ashes falling from the volcano everywhere.

I just wish they portrayed everything that is going on and not just the flashy things like the sinkhole. sigh…
Thanks for your good wishes, all the best to you too!
